Jack Daniel’s No 7 – Whisky Review
“An Unremarkable Classic” A classic – ye ol’ no 7, a staple of all whiskey drinkers cabinets. But for my taste.. I find it quite sharp and unrefined. The No 7 would be a drink I will have if given me but not one I would actively choose. I appreciate its relevance and classic taste along with its strengths as mixing drink as it makes a good base. But as a neat drink, which is how I like my whiskey, it is middle of the road. The Notes, Taste, and Mouth Feel… Notes Taste Mouth-Feel For the notes I find it smells woody teetering onto a slightly burnt wood smell which certainly lends to the fact of the fire aged barrels used in the manufacturing process. As for taste I get a hint of smokiness but the rest is unremarkable, the taste doesn’t stay on the palate for long and doesn’t overstay its welcome. For the mouth feel, as previously stated how its sharp but not too much, a bit more then I would like but it goes down. The No 7 wouldn’t be one I spend long savouring due it its unremarkable taste and lack of complexity but it is inoffensive. Conclusion Overall Jack Daniel’s No 7 is a middle of the road inoffensive bourbon, a classic of its age. Although I mark it middle of the road for my own personal taste, I appreciate its inoffensive and clean flavour profile as a good base to be built upon with other drinks to make what could be a more complex and well-rounded flavour experience, But on its own it just misses the mark for me.
